If you are at home

Report the passport loss to a Korean passport office and apply in person or through the official route accepted for your case. Bring Korean identity evidence, the passport photo, and the loss details. Report theft to police and keep the report 1.

The passport office decides which passport can be issued after checking identity and the loss record. Fees depend on booklet type, validity, age, and page count 1.

If you are abroad

Contact the nearest Korean embassy or consulate at once. Report theft to local police and take the written record, identity evidence, a passport photo, and proof of urgent travel requested by the mission 1.

The mission can explain whether a full electronic passport, a single passport, or a travel certificate fits the journey. Local-currency fees differ with the mission's schedule 1.

Emergency travel document

Korean missions list a one-year single passport and a travel certificate among the urgent document options. The accepting mission decides which document can be issued after identity and travel checks 1.

The Korean Embassy in Japan lists ¥2,210 for an electronic single passport valid up to one year, ¥6,500 for a non-electronic single passport valid up to one year, and ¥3,250 for a travel certificate from 1 March 2026 1. Ask the mission which document the route and destination will accept.

Replacement fees and forms

A mission's local fee schedule applies abroad. The Korean Embassy in Japan lists ¥6,760 for a 58-page multiple passport valid over five years and up to ten years, or ¥6,370 for 26 pages. A five-year 58-page passport for a person aged eight or over is ¥5,720 1.

The official fee notice does not give one processing time for every loss case. Identity checks and the selected document affect delivery, so rely on the collection date given by the passport office or mission 1.

If you find your passport later

Do not travel on the recovered passport after the loss has been recorded. Contact the passport office or Korean mission and follow its surrender directions 1.

Travel only on the replacement passport, single passport, or travel certificate issued for the case. Check any visas in the old booklet with the country that issued them 1.
