Lost or stolen Pakistani passport
- 36-page, five-year MRP after first loss
- Rs 9,000 normal or Rs 15,000 urgent 1
If you are at home
Report the loss without delay to the nearest passport office and police station. The police report must state the previous passport number 1,2. If you do not know the number, DGI&P says you can ask the nearest Regional Passport Office for it by written application with copies of your CNIC, NICOP, or a child registration certificate for a minor 1.
Apply in the reprint lost category. Bring the required identity documents and the police report. DGI&P permits an application at any passport office, regardless of the address on the CNIC, NICOP, or child registration certificate 1.
If you are abroad
Report the loss to the local police and contact the nearest Pakistan embassy or consulate. The Passport Rules require a report to the nearest Pakistan mission abroad. DGI&P says missions accept lost-passport applications 1,2.
A mission may ask for the police report, a copy of the lost passport, a valid CNIC or NICOP, proof of local status, and identity verification. The Embassy in Ankara lists a police report, copy of the lost passport, confirmed ticket, identity card, four photos, and proof of the emergency for an ETD application 3.
Emergency travel document
A Pakistan mission can issue an emergency travel document for return to Pakistan when the passport is lost or unavailable. The Ankara embassy says its ETD is for travel back to Pakistan only and is limited to extreme emergency cases 1,3.
Fees and document names can differ by mission. The Embassy in Baku lists an emergency passport or outpass fee of US$5 and asks for a police report that names the applicant and previous passport number, four photos, a written request, a CNIC or NICOP, local residence proof, and a copy of the lost passport 4. Check the mission that will handle your application before paying.
Replacement fees and forms
DGI&P charges double the normal passport fee after a first loss, four times the fee after a second loss, and requires referral for approval after a third loss 1,2. The base machine-readable passport fees took effect on 7 March 2024 1.
DGI&P's general requirements page gives 10 working days for normal applications and four working days for urgent applications 1. Its official FAQ gives 21 working days for normal applications and five working days for urgent applications 5. These official pages conflict, so confirm the current collection date with the office that accepts the application.
| 36-page machine-readable passport | Standard fee | First loss fee |
|---|---|---|
| Five years, normal | Rs 4,500 | Rs 9,000 |
| Five years, urgent | Rs 7,500 | Rs 15,000 |
| Ten years, normal | Rs 6,700 | Rs 13,400 |
| Ten years, urgent | Rs 11,200 | Rs 22,400 |
If you find your passport later
Do not travel on a passport after it has been reported lost. The Passport Rules treat the application as a reprint in place of the lost passport, and DGI&P says the previous passport is cancelled when a new passport is issued 2,5. Ask the passport office or mission how to surrender or mark the recovered document.
