If you are at home
Report the loss promptly and use the Department of Passports online application route. Attend the selected enrolment office with the documents shown by the Department, including citizenship evidence and any copy or details of the missing passport 1.
The Department warns that a passport reported lost or stolen must not be used if later recovered 1. Ask the enrolment office for the current loss fee and service time before payment.
If you are abroad
Contact the nearest Nepali embassy or consulate. Complete the pre-enrolment form and attend the mission in person for biometrics on the appointed date 2.
The London mission requires the printed form, Nepali citizenship certificate or a clear copy where permitted, a copy of the missing passport, and a written explanation of the loss. Your mission may set additional local requirements 2.
Emergency travel document
Ask the mission whether a one-way travel document is appropriate if you must return to Nepal before a passport can be issued. The mission will verify nationality, identity, and itinerary and will state the document fee and validity.
Confirm acceptance with the airline and every transit authority before travel. A one-way document is not a substitute for a normal passport for onward trips.
Replacement fees and forms
Fees outside Nepal are set and collected by the mission. As an official example, the Embassy in London lists £110 for renewal and £220 for replacement of a lost, stolen, or damaged e-passport 2.
Do not apply the London amount to another country. Use the fee published by the mission that will take your biometrics. Processing time varies by mission. London currently warns of up to 9 to 12 weeks during its passport-system transition 2.
If you find your passport later
Do not use it. The Department of Passports expressly says a passport reported lost or stolen must not be used even when it is later recovered 1. Give it to the Department or the mission handling the report.
