If you are at home
Report the loss or theft to the nearest police station and obtain the written report. The Ghana passport portal says the police report is mandatory for every lost or stolen replacement 1.
Sign in to the official passport account, start a new application, and select Missing or Damaged as the application type. Upload the police report and affidavit, then complete the remaining application steps and attend the assigned Passport Application Centre appointment 1.
If you are abroad
Report the loss to local police and contact the nearest Ghana embassy or high commission. Missions ask for evidence of Ghanaian nationality and identity, passport photos, a ticket, and the police report 2,3.
A full passport replacement may need identity checks with authorities in Ghana. The central passport portal warns that a missing-passport replacement can take longer due to extra verification 1. Ask the mission for its application fee and collection estimate before paying.
Emergency travel document
Ghana missions issue an Emergency Travel Certificate when a Ghanaian has no passport and needs one-way travel to Ghana. The Ghana Embassy in Algiers says a valid ticket is mandatory and a missing-passport request must include a police report 3.
Fees are set in local mission schedules. The Ghana Embassy in Harare lists US$20. It asks for a police report and affidavit showing the passport loss, a valid ticket, and two passport photos 2. The Ghana Embassy in Luanda lists Kz83,200 and requires the applicant to appear in person 4.
Replacement fees and forms
Use the official Ghana passport portal and select Missing or Damaged 1. The central replacement page does not display the current domestic lost-passport fee in its public instructions, so check the amount shown in the official portal before payment.
Mission prices are not a national flat amount. A Brussels mission schedule lists €220 for a lost, damaged, or stolen passport and €60 for a travel certificate. The Harare mission lists US$20 for its Emergency Travel Certificate 2,5. Use the schedule for the mission handling your case.
If you find your passport later
Do not travel on the recovered passport after the police and Passport Office or mission have recorded it as lost. Take it to the office handling your replacement and ask how to surrender it. The replacement route records the document as missing and subjects the application to verification 1.
